Murmur is a Canadian docufilm that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Directed by Heather Young in her debut, the film tells the poignant story of Donna, a woman in her fifties navigating the aftermath of alcoholism and filling the void of addiction through her relationships with pets. Its minimalist, stark cinematography complements its themes of isolation and longing.
For this project, I focused on designing the film's title typography. After an extensive exploration of typefaces, I selected Forma DJR, a modern digital revival of the classic Forma by David Jonathan Ross.
While the typeface may appear unassuming at first glance, its subtle precision and neutrality resonate with the film's somber tone.
Paired with the promotional imagery, the chosen typography amplifies the film's narrative mood, creating a visual identity that aligns with the director's vision of bleakness and introspection.
